History of Veterans Day
Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S Legal Holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. The original legislation for Veterans Day happened in 1938, and was originally called Armistice Day. After World War II and the Korean War, an amendment was made to change the name from Armistice Day to what we all know today as “Veterans Day”. A fun fact about Veterans Day is that from 1968 to 1975 it was actually moved to the fourth Monday of October, but backlash from the states caused it to move back to its original date that we still celebrate today. You can learn more about it here.
