Electronic Titles

Beginning March 16, 2021, the Michigan Department of State began allowing for the electronic exchange of lien and title information with lienholders in lieu of paper certificates of title. Along with all other financial institutions in Michigan, PFCU is required to participate.

Electronic titles will be issued for vehicles and watercraft financed through PFCU.

After you close your loan with PFCU – you will not get a physical title in the mail for the new loan. The perfected lien will be electronically issued by the State of Michigan.

PFCU will issue a release of lien letter by mail to you. PFCU will request the electronic lien be released and that a paper title be mailed to you. This will be issued by the State of Michigan.

Contact PFCU at 844-517-3611 and PFCU will request from State of Michigan a paper title showing PFCU as lienholder be mailed to you (if the loan is not yet paid off).

If you do not want to wait for the title in the mail – after lien release or if you are waiting for a paper title copy in mail to sell – you are able to go into a Secretary Of State Branch and have one printed.

Once the lien is released from PFCU you can go to a Secretary of State Branch Office and request a duplicate instant title. There are fees associated with this transaction.

The Credit Union Difference

A credit union is a not-for-profit, cooperative financial institution owned and run by its members. Organized to serve, democratically-controlled credit unions provide their members with a safe place to save and borrow at reasonable rates. Members pool their funds to make loans to one another. The volunteer board that runs each credit union is elected by the members. Not for profit, not for charity, but for service is a credit union motto.

Credit unions are not new. Originating in Europe, credit union history began in this country when the first credit union was formed in Manchester, New Hampshire, in 1909. Today, more than 10,000 credit unions with more than $480 billion in assets serve more than 79 million people in the United States. More and more people join credit unions every year and they are pleased with the service. Credit unions have been rated No. 1 in member satisfaction at financial institutions for 10 years, according to the American Banker Newspaper's annual customer satisfaction survey.

A bank is a for-profit organization and its goal is to maximize shareholders' profits. A bank typically does this by charging higher rates on loans, higher fees on transactions, and offering lower rates on savings plans. The owners' interests are often contrary to the interests of customers, who are valued primarily for the income they generate.

A credit union has the mission of service. Its goal is to help members improve their lives through more effective use of their financial resources. This is accomplished both through the education of the membership on financial topics, the credit union offering typically lower loan rates, lower fees, and paying higher rates on savings products. The major difference is that a bank has to charge higher rates and fees to cover both normal operation expenses and earnings for stockholders; the credit union only has to pay for normal operation expenses and a sufficient allocation to reserves. All of the credit union's net earnings are given back in some way to the members who use its services.

Rules & Regulations

To make a payment over the phone you will need the other financial institutions name, routing number, your account number, what type of account it is and the amount you are going to pay.

Overdraft fees are placed on your account when you do not have enough funds in your account for your purchases. Overdraft fees can also be assessed with your pending transactions as well.

This fee is placed on your account when there had to be funds moved from one account to another to cover charges clearing in your account. By having this service, you were able to avoid an overdraft fee.
